Bohuslava Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra

The first impetus for the creation of a symphony orchestra in Zlín came from none other than the local Baťa company in the 1920s. However, it was not until after World War II that the company’s brass band began to form the basis of the Baťa National Enterprise Symphony Orchestra. After Rudolf Kvasnica being appointed as conductor, the first concert took place in the Grand Cinema building, where the orchestra was based, on April 30, 1946. However, in 1955, it moved to the new House of Arts, and a second move took place in 2011 when the Congress Centre was completed. Since January 1989, the philharmonic has borne the name of one of the most important Czech composers, B. Martinů.
The orchestra’s repertoire includes not only major symphonic works, but also compositions that cross over into the realms of jazz, rock, chanson, and pop music. The philharmonic’s concert activities are currently based on five subscription series, and it performs not only in the Czech Republic, but also tours throughout Europe, the USA, South Korea, and India (57 years after the last performance of a Czech orchestra in that country).
The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra organizes two music festivals – the autumn music festival Harmonia Moraviae and Talentinum. Its important activities also include supporting the work of young Czech composers and the musical education of the younger generation. The philharmonic regularly collaborates with radio and television stations and records audio media.

Sandra Hamaoui

Hlubokou inspiraci nachází rovněž v současném výtvarném umění a designu.
