Dear friends and guests of the Lednice-Valtice Music Festival,
It is time to reveal a unique programme of the next, already 7th year of the festival to you. Unlike last year’s focus on Baroque and the music of Antonio Vivaldi, we will present more romantic music and recall the past of the Moravian Croats – descendants of Croats who came to the territory of South Moravia at the invitation of the Liechtenstein family during their retreat from the Ottoman armies.
Personally, I have very special connection to this year’s programme as my maternal great-grandmother came from the Croatian Maurice family. Perhaps that is why the musical energy of the southern countries appeals to me so much. And it will be a great pleasure for me to share it with you through the top artists from the former Yugoslavia countries – Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia. And not only during the festival prologue in Hlohovec and Charvátská Nová Ves and the classic autumn programme, but also during lectures and education from the mentioned villages where children will learn about the history of their ancestors.
The music of the Croatian composer Dora Pejačević, who lived at turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and was linked to our country by her friendly relations with the patron of the arts Sidonie Nádherná von Borutín and writers such as Karl Kraus and Rainer Maria Rilke, will be a red thread of many concerts.
Therefore, please accept our invitation and book the tickets for concerts and thematic lectures as you please in advance. It will be our pleasure if you visit us and spend pleasant moments together with us in the company of beautiful music in top quality performance and in magnificent genius loci venues.
