Whether you have already experienced the unique, almost family atmosphere of the Lednice|Valtice Music Festival with us, or you are on the festival website for the first time, I warmly welcome you here and thank you for your interest in this music event. As in previous years, we have prepared for you a few surprises, news, and especially a large portion of beautiful music performed by first-class artists and ensembles. Therefore, I would be very happy if you make time and share the \u201cjubilee\u201d 5th year of the Lednice|Valtice Music Festival with us in October.<\/p>\n

Lednice|Valtice Music Festival 2020 | 3\u2013 17 October<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

The programme of the 5th year of Lednice-Valtice Music Festival<\/a> draws on the rich inspirational sources of the cultural heritage of South Moravia: folk motifs, rich Jewish cultural traditions, or oriental elements of the Lednice-Valtice area<\/strong>. Therefore, the eight concerts of this year\u2019s festival combine the refined aesthetics of classical music with the traditional folk culture of different nations and cultures<\/strong>. The music will return not only to the popular places \u2013 Valtice Castle<\/a>, Lednice Chateau<\/a>, Mikulov Castle<\/a> and others, but the festival is not afraid to experiment this year as well and discover new venues from the workshop of Liechtenstein architects for its listeners (Chateau Wilfersdorf<\/a>, Pond Chateau Lednice<\/a>) and synagogue in B\u0159eclav<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sat 3 October 2020<\/strong>
\nLVHF 2020 will be launched on 3rd October<\/strong> by the internationally acclaimed Janoska Ensemble from Slovakia<\/strong><\/a>, whose energetic, almost equilibristic performances are a clear geyser of virtuosity and unbridled spontaneity, described by the ensemble\u2019s double bassist Julius Darvas: \u201cWe would like to bring a revolution into the world of classical music. We want to restore the forgotten pieces and bring the lost art of improvisation that every Baroque musician took for granted back to the music.\u201d The concert will take place in Lednice Riding Hall<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sun 4 October 2020<\/strong>
\nTopics such as love, family, eternal wandering and the search for one\u2019s destiny are reflected in the emotional texts of Jewish songs that will be heard during the second LVHF concert on 4th October in the synagogue in B\u0159eclav<\/a> performed by the Ostrava Klezmer Band<\/strong><\/a>. The group audaciously combines dance<\/strong> (freylekhs) and vocal music of Jews<\/strong> from the Central and Eastern Europe (klezmer) with elements of jazz and Latin American music<\/strong>. The soloist of the evening will be soprano Johana \u010cernohorsk\u00e1<\/strong>. The concert is accompanied by an supporting programme<\/a>, in which the historian Alena K\u00e1\u0148ov\u00e1<\/strong> will talk about the importance of the B\u0159eclav branch of the Kuffner family.<\/p>\n

Wed 7 October 2020<\/strong>
\nRulers, politicians, warriors, landlords and movers of progress \u2013 all this was represented by the Liechtensteins in the Lednice-Valtice estate for centuries. They sought their \u201cspiritual immortality\u201d not only in the symbiosis of their activities, but also by seeking inspiration in different cultures. Among other things, their architects brought the elements of Arab culture or the Far East<\/strong> in the form of the Moorish Waterworks, Chinese Pavilion or the famous Minaret into the landscape of today\u2019s Lednice-Valtice area. Landscape architect P\u0159emysl Krej\u010di\u0159\u00edk<\/strong> will talk about oriental motifs in the Lednice park as part of the supporting programme<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fri 9 October 2020<\/strong>
\nThe Czech music can boast with the three string quartets that have conquered the world: From My Life<\/em>, Intimate Letters<\/em> and American Quartet in F major<\/em> by Anton\u00edn Dvo\u0159\u00e1k. The first two of them \u2013 String Quartet No. 1 in E minor \u201cFrom My Life\u201d<\/em> by Bed\u0159ich Smetana and String Quartet No. 2 \u201cIntimate Letters\u201d<\/em> by Leo\u0161 Jan\u00e1\u010dek \u2013 will be performed at a concert by one of the most remarkable chamber ensembles in the world<\/strong>, winner of six prestigious Gramophone Awards<\/strong>, Pavel Haas Quartet<\/strong>. Absolutely exceptional evening in the Knight\u2019s Hall of Lednice Castle. Last tickets on sale<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Sat 10 October 2020<\/strong>
\nFourth concert of the festival<\/a> will offer not only an interesting cast, but also a world premiere. The concert will connect two exceptional ensembles of different music worlds<\/strong> \u2013 Jan\u00e1\u010dek Chamber Orchestra<\/strong> and EnsembleFLAIR<\/strong>, whose instrumental cast is based on the Moravian folk tradition. The soloist will be a legendary Czech violinist V\u00e1clav Hude\u010dek<\/strong>. You can enjoy an exceptional evening on Mikulov Castle<\/a> on the Saturday, October 10, with us.<\/p>\n

Sun 11 October 2020<\/strong>
\nOn 11th October, we will celebrate the 150 years since the birth<\/strong> of the important Czech pedagogue, composer and lover of folk culture V\u00edt\u011bzslav Nov\u00e1k in the newly reconstructed Pond Chateau Lednice<\/a>. The venue, as if created for the chamber music, will introduce an ensemble composed of leading representatives of the young Czech artistic generation, winner of the Czech Chamber Music Society Award 2017,<\/strong> Lobkowicz Trio<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wed 14 October 2020<\/strong>
\nEvery festival is worth a little trip. That is why we go to Austria with the FolkloreClassic<\/strong><\/a> ensemble and its \u201cfrontwoman\u201d Mark\u00e9ta Janou\u0161kov\u00e1<\/strong> to the charming Liechtenstein Chateau Wilfersdorf<\/a>. We will bring the author\u2019s work of FolkloreClassic as well as the vivacious music of Slovak, Romanian and Hungarian authors and Moravian folk songs<\/strong> and dances arranged by Leo\u0161 Jan\u00e1\u010dek to our southern neighbours on 14th October.<\/p>\n

Fri 16 October 2020<\/strong>
\nThe Valtice Castle Theatre<\/a> will welcome a Spanish guitarist Andrea Gonzalez Caballero<\/a><\/strong> in her Czech debut on 16th October. The winner of international guitar competitions in Rome and Valencia<\/strong> will introduce the audience with the vivacious compositions by Spanish composers. Her artistic partner of the evening will be the violinist Ji\u0159\u00ed Partyka<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sun 17 October 2020<\/strong>
\n\u010cechomor<\/strong><\/a>, the iconic band of these days which has been moving between classical music and Moravian folklore for several decades, will wrap up the jubilee 5th year of LVHF in the historical Valtice Castle Riding Hall<\/a>. Accompanied by the Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc<\/strong> and under the baton of the leading Czech conductor, composer and arranger Jan Ku\u010dera<\/strong>, we will hear the songs from the legendary album \u201cProm\u011bny\u201d (Transformations), complemented by several new pieces arranged by Adam Sztaba<\/strong>. The ticket includes an invitation to a meeting with the prominent painter and graphic artist from the South Moravia Anton\u00edn Vojtek<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Concerts for schools 5 and 6 October<\/strong>
\nThe excellent Prague Radio Trio<\/strong><\/a> will take over this year\u2019s four educational concerts in B\u0159eclav, Valtice, Lednice and Mikulov<\/strong>. And what will the children learn? The oboe, clarinet and bassoon basics<\/strong> \u2013 what their construction is, what they can do and how to practice them properly and other interesting facts. There will also be space to talk about the importance of the overall musician training<\/strong> and concert preparation<\/strong>. And as we read the story, we think together about how music affects us and what emotions it evokes. Compositions by Anton\u00edn Dvo\u0159\u00e1k<\/strong>, Bed\u0159ich Smetana<\/strong>, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart<\/strong> and Ludwig van Beethoven<\/strong> will be performed. Concerts are intended for schools as part of teaching. Entrance is free of charge<\/strong>, but seats must be reserved in advance<\/a>.<\/p>\n
