Ensemble Matheus regularly makes its artistic impact on the most important music stages in the world. The ensemble from Brittany, which will celebrate 30 years since its founding in 2021, has built a strong bond not only with emblematic French opera and concert houses – Théâtre du Châtelet (ensemble in residence since 2007) and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Château de Versailles Royal Opera, Les Grands Concerts de Lyon – but also with many prestigious stages abroad (Carnegie Hall in New York, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Wigmore Hall in London, BBC Proms, Salzburg Festival, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome etc.). The collaboration with the Italian opera star Cecilia Bartoli, which in 2018 resulted in a joint recording of Vivaldi’s arias for Decca, must not remain unnoticed as well. After all, Vivaldi is almost the court composer of the ensemble: a 2005 recording of Orlando Furioso for Naïve became a complete sensation. Since then, the ensemble has released three more Vivaldi operas on the same label as part of the Vivaldi Edition project: La fida ninfa, Griselda and La verità in cimento. For the Summer Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, he is preparing the Vivaldi project called L‘Olimpiade, which will connect the world of music and sport. Ensemble Matheus proudly declares its Brittany citizenship, where the ensemble regularly performs (the successful project “Opera in the region” to name an example) and gives a great attention to educational programmes. Ensemble Matheus is supported by the Conseil régional de Bretagne, Conseil général du Finistère, the city of Brest and DRAC de Bretagne.

Jean-Christophe Spinosi

Modern, brave in the artistic course, deeply human, moving with elegance from baroque music to the contemporary. This is how Jean-Christoph Spinosi, the founder and artistic leader of the Ensemble Matheus, can be characterized. In addition to his ensemble, he is a regular guest of the Théâtre du Châtelet, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Paris National Opera, Château de Versailles Royal Opera, Vienna State Opera, Theatre an der Wien, Salzburg Festival, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and many more. Among others, he has collaborated with the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic, Deutsche Symphony Orchester Berlin, hr-Sinfonieorchester or Royal Philharmonic in Stockholm. He became famous for his experimental productions at Queen Mary II, New York’s Central Park or the performance aboard a Boeing flying to South Korea. Spinosi has no boundaries. His career is lined with exceptional artistic friendships with Cecilia Bartoli and Philippe Jaroussky, with whom he has created several even iconic projects, which certainly include staging Rossini Otello and La Cenerentola for Salzburg Festival, and has recorded several extremely successful albums worldwide for Decca and EMI-Virgin Classics (such as the triple Gold Record for Heroes with Philippe Jaroussky).

Jakub Józef Orliński

In 2019, Roger Parker wrote for the prestigious magazine Opera: “Orliński is a real countertenor miracle, one of the best I’ve ever heard on the opera stages.” Orliński’s bio was published on the pages of the magazines such as The New Yorker or the Polish Vogue. He has fifty-five thousand followers on his Facebook profile alone, and the number of views of his recordings on YouTube has exceeded ten million by a lot. Being 30 years old, Jakub Józef Orliński is without a doubt one of the most watched artists in the contemporary world of the classical music.Orliński’s international career started with his debut at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in Erismena (Orimeno) by Cavalli in 2017. At that time, he had had valuable victories from the Metropolitan Opera National Council 2016, Lyndon Woodside Oratorio-Solo Competition 2016 and from the International Early Music Vocal Competitions in Poland. Over the next three years, he has collaborated with the ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants (project Tell Me the Truth About Love, directed by Robert Carsen, and the performance of Stabat Mater by Vivaldi with Paul Agnew), The English Concert (Tamerlano by Händel performed in Carnegie Hall (New York), Disney Hall (Los Angeles), Barbican Centre (London), Théâtre des Champs-Élysées (Paris), Theater an der Wien (Wien) etc.), Music of the Baroque or Il Pomo d’oro, with which he recorded all three solo albums Anima sacra, Facce d’amore (International Opera Award 2020), and currently the last one Anima aeterna, which will be released by the end of this year. Additionally, Jakub Józef Orliński has made his debuts in Wigmore Hall (London), Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona), Glyndebourne Festival (Sussex, Great Britain), Händel-Festspiele (Karlsruhe), Verbier Festival, Opernhaus Zürich (Switzerland) or Frankfurt Opera. He also performed in the annual popular concert in Paris under the Eiffel Tower. In addition, he is actively involved in breakdancing, and has even won several awards in this field (fourth place in the Red Bull BC One Poland Cypher Competition as an example). Thanks to his talent, attractive appearance and extraordinary charisma, he has become the face of campaigns for many companies, including Levi’s, Nike, Turbokolor and Samsung.

Jakub Józef Orliński graduated from Fryderyk Chopin University in Warsaw and Juilliard School in New York. He also graduated from the prestigious Opera Academy Teatr Wielki-Opera Narodowa in Warsaw. From 2015 to 2017, he was a Fulbright Association. He records for Warner Classics/Erato exclusively.

Anna Schivazappa

The native of Padua is one of the leading specialists in the playing of historical mandolins, although her artistic scope ranges from early music to contemporary music. She collaborated with ensembles such as Il Giardino Armonico, Pygmalion or Atelier Lyrique of Opéra national de Paris. In 2012, she established the ensemble called Pizzicar Galante, which aims to discover the repertoire of the 18th century written for mandolin and basso continuo. The ensemble has released two internationally acclaimed albums: the world premieres of sonatas for mandolin by Robert Valentini (International Classical Music Award 2017 nomination) and sonatas for mandolin by Domenico Scarlatti. Musicological research has a very important role in Anna Schivazappa’s artistic life. As a post gradual student at the Sorbonne in Paris, she has been cooperating with the French National Library since 2017, where she received a scholarship for her projects in the field of discovering a new repertoire for her instrument. She plays the mandolin made in Naples by Italian master Antonius Vinaccio in 1768.

Principal Concert Partner

Principal Concert Partner

Concert Partner

In cooperation

Winery of the Concert

Downloadable lyrics of the vocal-instrumental compositions Programme Note Antonio Vivaldi (1678–1741) L‘Olimpiade RV 725, overture I.
